EARNING RANK
Tests for youth are approximately every 4 to 6 months.
During that time youth are challenged to earn 5 Goal Stripes per rank to show their progression, before testing for their next belt. This helps ensure that students are well prepared for their physical and written tests.
Each day is a progression towards a student's next rank, culminating towards a challenging physical and mental test for each belt level. An official test for rank is a way to show our student's mental and physical growth.
TO EARN RANK, STUDENTS MUST:
1. PASS PHYSICAL TEST
Forms (sequences of several techniques)
One-step sparring (pre-arranged techniques with a partner)
Self-defense techniques (with partner)
Free sparring
Breaking boards (dependent on rank and age)
Physical endurance
Other aspects to be decided by the proctor
2. PASS WRITTEN TEST
A study guide is provided for each rank
Philosophy, terminology, and history of Tang Soo Do.
Cumulative as the ranks progress.
Ex: Testing for Green belt, student must know material from Orange and White belt test.
3. DEMONSTRATE IN CLASS:
Dedication to training
Willingness to learn and try new things
Effort toward self-improvement
*As the student advances in rank, the requirements increase.
